This editorial examines the challenges and opportunities within Pakistan's research infrastructure, which is underdeveloped compared to global standards. The Higher Education Commission's initiatives are highlighted, focusing on enhancing research quality amidst issues such as inadequate peer review and plagiarism. Despite increases in publication outputs in fields like engineering and medical sciences, Pakistan's visibility in high-impact journals remains limited. The need for enhanced international collaboration and funding to improve research quality and reach is emphasized. The conclusion suggests that strategic investments and partnerships are crucial for elevating Pakistan's research capabilities to meet international norms and foster academic excellence.
