Association Between Vitamin D Deficiency and Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain in Physiotherapy Patients

Abstract
Background: People who have pain that lasts a long time may also have low levels of vitamin D. We do not know much about this issue in people who go to physiotherapy. We wanted to find out how many people who go to physiotherapy have levels of vitamin D and if it affects how much pain they have and how well they can do things. We did a study with 85 adults who had pain for more than 12 weeks. We checked their blood for vitamin D levels and divided them into three groups: people with low levels of vitamin D people with low levels of vitamin D and people with normal levels of vitamin D. We also asked them to rate their pain and how much it affects their daily life. What we found out is that vitamin D deficiency is very common in people who go to physiotherapy. We found that 53 people out of 85 had low levels of vitamin D. People with low levels of vitamin D had more pain and had a harder time doing things. The people with low levels of vitamin D had the most pain and the hardest time doing things. For example the people with low levels of vitamin D had pain scores of 7.1 out of 10. The people with levels of vitamin D had pain scores of 5.8 out of 10.. The people with normal levels of vitamin D had pain scores of 4.3 out of 10. We also found that the people with low levels of vitamin D had a harder time doing things than the people with low levels of vitamin D and the people with normal levels of vitamin D. In conclusion we found that people, with levels of vitamin D have more pain and a harder time doing things.. We do not know if low levels of vitamin D cause more pain and disability or if it is just a coincidence. Vitamin D is a thing to consider for people who have musculoskeletal pain and go to physiotherapy
